That was the Cancer Research Run 2022

We would like to thank all runners, sponsors and supporters!

We would like to thank everyone who ran many laps for cancer research and supported the Cancer Research Run on 8 October at the Old General Hospital! Since 2007, donations from the MedUni Vienna Cancer Research Run have supported more than 60 scientific projects on tumour diseases. All participants, partners and sponsors of this year's 16th Cancer Research Run will use their donations to support further promising research projects aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Save the Date: The next Cancer Research Run will take place on 7 October 2023!

Cancer mortality decreases thanks to research

In Austria, about 42,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year; men are affected slightly more often than women. For both sexes, malignant tumours are the second most common cause of death after cardiovascular diseases. The most common cancers in Austria are breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. Although the number of new cases is rising, cancer mortality is falling. The relative three-year survival has increased continuously in the past decades and is on average around 65 percent in the diagnosis period 2013 to 2016 (source: Austrian Cancer Report 2021).
This positive development is largely due to advances in cancer medicine. With the results of basic research, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are improved and new treatment concepts are made possible.

Donations for cancer research

100 per cent of the money raised by MedUni Vienna's Cancer Research Run goes towards research projects run by the Cancer Research Initiative. The 14 ongoing projects currently being funded by donations to Cancer Research aim to advance the development of targeted, personalised therapies in the context of precision medicine. This work can be supported throughout the year by donations to Cancer Research.
